How to Keep Your Workplace Clean To Prevent COVID-19 Transmission

A picture with a handwashing symbolIn 2020, COVID-19 took the world by storm; it became extremely difficult for workplaces to implement procedures that would stop its spread in the aftermath.

Since the virus spread through physical contact, coughing, or sneezing, serious measures had to be implemented to keep employees safe. This meant remote work for most workplaces.

If you’re planning on reopening your office, you need to ensure that safety practices are embedded in the system and are strictly followed strictly to minimize COVID cases.

Follow these simple steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at your workplace:

1. Wash your Hands Regularly

A useful way of stopping the spread of germs is fostering a culture of constant handwashing among your employees. According to the Centers for Disease and Control Prevention (CDC), it’s suggested that employers print and post CDC fact sheets as a reminder about when to wash hands. This includes:

  • Before meal preparation
  • After using the bathroom
  • After sneezing or coughing
  • After touching or throwing away garbage

The CDC has also recommended using alcohol-based sanitizers that contain 60–90 percent alcohol. Place them at each station, conference room, and in washrooms. Make sure your employees keep track of whether handwashing rules are being maintained.

2. Sanitize Workstations

Get cleaning staff to clean workstation laptops, keyboards, remotes, doorknobs, and countertops thrice daily. The CDC has suggested making use of regular cleaning agents to wipe dirt off doorknobs, windows, desktops, and other surfaces.

Moreover, every employee must be given the responsibility of sanitizing their personal belongings. A tissue box or a disposable wipes box must be placed on every employee’s station for use.

You must invest in a contract with a commercial cleaning service provider like ours to prevent any outbreaks.

3. Seating Arrangement

COVID-19 is spread through sneezing or coughing, along with close contact with people. That’s why it’s advisable to set-up the seating arrangement in a way where people are socially distanced from each other.

Follow OSHA standards to prevent the spread of COVID-19; avoid coughing and sneezing in your hands, try covering your mouth with your elbow. Socially distant seating will do the rest, minimizing contact. You can also follow the 50-50 staff rule. This rule involves calling only 50 percent of people to work while the other 50 percent stays at home. This is done in shifts so the ones at home also get the chance to come to the office.

As best practice, always wear masks when you communicate with one another and keep a sanitizer with you at all times.
